SMOKE-FREE CARROLL COUNTY Coalition Meetings
7-Mar-08: A Smoke-Free Carroll County Coalition meeting held on March 7, 2008 with the following people as our guest speakers:
The Rev. David Highfield, who spoke about the Spiritual Perspective of smoking, challenged our group to keep children and youth away from second-hand smoke as well as recruit youth to be involved with the Coalition.
John Miller, Security Manager at Carroll Hospital Center, reported on the recommitment efforts undertaken to make CHC a smoke-free site inside and on the grounds, effective November 15, 2007, Great American Smoke-Out Day.
Anne Grauel, Staff Development, at Springfield Hospital Center, spoke to the process the Center followed to make their site entirely smoke-free as of January 7, 2008.
Larry Leitch, Carroll County Health Officer, gave an update on enforcement of the 2007 Clean Indoor Air Act, which went into effect on February 1.
Dennis Beard, concerned citizen, shared information on the Maryland “Safe Cigarette" Bill.
Miranda Garay and Janine Delahanty, both of MDQuit, explained how the MDQuit website can help Carroll County residents.
We thank all of the presenters for participating in the program and for answering the many questions of our members. Their valuable information helped us to tie everything together so that our Coalition can continue to be successful in our efforts.
Please be sure to check this website again soon for our revised Action List (on the SFCC Coalition Purpose page) and for information on how you can help to make Carroll County smoke-free!
