Our 2nd Annual Smoke-Free Carroll County Coalition meeting was held on March 7, 2008.  Twenty-eight people attended the event. Participants learned which items from the 2007 Action List have been completed, and which items still remain to be accomplished.  We also explored new ways to encourage Carroll County residents to stop using tobacco.  Please click here for details.

February 1, 2008 was a landmark day for health in our state. The Clean Indoor Air Act of 2007 has gone into effect banning smoking in all indoor locations, including bars & restaurants in our state. Maryland has now joined more than 20 other states and numerous countries world-wide.  See article here for more about how Smoke-Free Carroll County is helping to implement this measure to protect health in our community.

May 17, 2007 -  Governor Martin O’Malley signed legislation requiring all restaurants and bars in Maryland to become smoke-free, effective February 1, 2008. The law protects the health of restaurant and bar employees and patrons, closing the legislative loophole that allowed these establishments to be exempt from the state’s workplace smoking ban.
Thank you to all who rallied for Smoke-Free Maryland to become a reality!
