Help to Quit Smoking -
Local programs are available through funding support provided by the Carroll County Health Department’s Cigarette Restitution Fund program. Many classes are provided in partnership with Carroll Hospital Center. Registration is easy, and a variety of locations and schedules are available.

Health Department programs encompass four areas:
 
1. Community Based Programs - Programs are offered for tobacco use prevention, cessation and education. These free classes provide self-help materials to aid in quitting tobacco use. Participants in classes receive vouchers for nicotine patches.
 
Women and Tobacco Coffee Hour - Come relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or cocoa to discuss the truth about tobacco use and how it affects us. Held at Carroll Hospital Center. Please register to attend.
The Next Step Maintenance Program - Support group to assist in staying quit. Meets two times a month at Carroll Hospital Center. No registration required.
Stop Using Tobacco For Life!
7-week program - Thursday Nights, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Focuses on the individual need to develop skills to unlearn the habitual and unconscious part of the smoking habit. Program is run by trained cessation counselors. Registration required. Sessions cover:
  Behavior Modification Techniques
  Meet others trying to quit --share ideas
  Stress Management Techniques
  Positive Addiction vs. Negative Addiction
  Vouchers - Reduces cost of nicotine patch
  Carbon Monoxide Checks
Location: Carroll Hospital Center. These 6-week classes are held year round.

Jump Start to Quitting - Quick quit program to help you achieve a tobacco-free life. This two-hour clinic will get you started, or refresh your quitting plan. Held at Carroll County Health Department. Register to attend: call 410-876-4429.

2. Enforcement efforts - Program works with local law enforcement officials to check compliance with the Maryland State Law about selling tobacco products to minors.
3. School-Based Program - Conducted with Carroll County Public Schools to increase tobacco prevention curriculum. Also includes initiatives targeting preschool and college-age populations.
4. Tobacco Cessation Instructor Training Program - Provides training to become a Tobacco Cessation Educator/Trainer. Class is taught at Carroll Community College. Dates vary. To register, call Carroll Community College at 410-386-8100, or 410-876-4429 for more information.

  1. If you are you thinking about quitting, pick a date and mark your calendar - then stick to your Quit Date!
2. Take time to get ready. Learn how to handle stress.
3. Have a plan:
 
Join an educational support group.
Set up support system - reward yourself.
Use medicine and nicotine replacement products.
Tell friends and family.

Ask your doctor about Chantix - a new prescription drug to aid in tobacco cessation. Vouchers to help pay for Chantix are available for any Carroll County resident who is enrolled in a class or referred by Quit Now. See www.chantix.com for more information.

The Community Tobacco Coalition meets each month to review and guide the activities of the Cigarette Restitution Fund Program in Carroll County.
