Achievements:

We currently have a team of talented individuals in our community that make up the HC-HY Initiators Team.  This team is dedicated to promoting developmental asset building and encouraging organizations and individuals to make a commitment to intentionally build assets in youth.  If you are interested in joining our team please contact Laurie Beard 410-871-6372 or lbeard@carrollhospitalcenter.org.

Since its establishment in 2000 the HC-HY Initiative has enjoyed much success in the area of awareness and education. 

 

Below is a list of notable achievements.
June 2000 Risky Business Conference presented keynote speaker from Search Institute, Tim Duffey, to introduce developmental asset building. Attended by over 200 professionals.
November 2000

10 Carroll County citizens attended HC-HY National Convention Partnership becomes registered HC-HY initiative with Search Institute.

December 2000

Presented concept of 40 assets to groups such as: Local Management Board, Mayors, YMCA, Faith Community, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, CC Chamber of Commerce, CC Public Library, Department of Juvenile Justice and CC Public Schools

April 2001 Grace Lutheran Church sponsored workshop on 40 Developmental Assets with nationally recognized speaker Cynthia Sosnowski- 35 community members in attendance
May 2001 Conducted statewide, regional and local training, “Creating a Community Where Young People Thrive” to provide information and workshops about asset development. Attendance of 175 community members, youth and adults.  Nationally recognized speakers Cynthia Sosnowski and Darvin Ayre.
June 2001 40 Developmental Assets Training by Cynthia Sosnowski geared to Community Learning Center staff and child care providers.
October 2001 - June 2003

Established Leadership work group Team including youth and

adults through the Community Learning Center.  Team

developed mission, focus and action plan for local HC-HY

initiative.

October 2001 - March 2002 Presented 3 workshops with presentation by Cynthia Sosnowski, geared toward parents, child care providers and community members.
April 2002 Introduction of “Celebrate Youth Year” which focused on the positive contributions of young people.
May 2002 Recognized Leadership work group Team members for their commitment to developmental assets at the “Community Learning Center End of Year Celebration”.
June 2002 Featured speaker at the Carroll County Women’s Fair Summer Social- training for community members on asset building.
January 2003 HC-HY Team conducted training presentation to Life Teen advisors and Religious Education staff at St. John Catholic Church.
March 2003 Youth at St. John Catholic Church completed asset survey to determine the level of assets in local youth.  Over 200 participated.
May 2003 Youth at Community Learning Center middle schools completed asset survey.  Over 300 participated.
